故事发生在解放前后。郑琛（陈庭威 饰）、李乃强（欧锦棠 饰）和朱润（刘锡贤 饰）是广东潮州同乡的好兄弟，郑琛父亲是当地殷实的商人，郑家在当地有着非常高的声望。少年郑琛就已经显示出了过人的谋略和胆识，十年潮州一带土匪作乱，郑琛用计吓跑了他们，随后更是主持公道，化解了上莲村、下莲村之间的恩怨。解放后，他和李乃强、朱润一起来到了香港闯天下。初到香港，三人穷得叮当响，但是他们并不灰心，而是开始了由低做起，一步一个脚印，在经历了一连串了风风雨雨后，三人都获得了巨大的成功，郑琛成了香港的制衣业龙头，刚正不阿的李乃强在经过廉政风暴后终于在警界站稳了脚跟，朱润则成了连锁饮食业巨头。他们的奋斗历史也印证了香港的发展。
